Rachel and I were talking today about ways to keep our family ties strong. We are all so busy and we all live so far away from each other but I think it is worth the effort to try and stay connected. Perhaps if we each post something on Sunday or when we get the chance we will be able to see through photos and words more of what we are all doing. So I'll start by updating all of you on our little family. Here goes...
For those of you who don't know we live in Michigan on a 20+ acre "farm". This week we are anxiously awaiting the arrival of 27 baby chicks! Hopefully, they will be here by Friday. Our other creatures include 3 cats and two bunnies - I'm not counting the 4 resident deer because I hope they will go away soon.
Our daughters are growing and Sarah will be 11 in January. I can hardly believe it! Emma is 9, Martha is 7, Hannah is 4. My age will remain unknown - the grey hairs are telling all.
I just looked at the clock and I'm out of time for now... Hope to hear from the rest of you!

Hey there,
I'm not quite sure if I am doing this right, but here goes. I think this is a great idea Becky! Hopefully we can keep a little more connected in our crazy lives.:) We are having a great fall here in Pennsylvania-it is getting cooler, but we'll take that over what we know is to come. Our teachers have been on strike now for about 10 days now. It is a little crazy having all the kids home. So far they have kept busy with friends and each other, but the strike has to potential to last until Nov 15 and we would lose all our other vacation days as a result. Augh! On top of that, I was the recipient of a speeding ticket about a month ago, (going 20 over in a work zone) and as a result of some wonderful laws in Pennsylvania, my license will be suspended for 15 days! CRAZY, right? So I get to have all my kids home and no ability to go anywhere. I could schedule the suspension any time before Nov 23, but I am thinking the best time is now, because life only gets busier with the holidays. So yes, you have a sister who is a criminal-or so they say in PA.:)
Our kids are stoked about Halloween-except Jeremiah. He has officially gone to "no costume, Mom" mode. I told him he was going to have to beg for candy from his sisters, but he's standing firm. Of course, last night on the way to our ward trunk or treat I came up with a brilliant costume for him-he could be a teacher on strike! He agreed that it was funny, but when I told him I could put together a placard for him real fast, he declined. Anyway, the girls were all spies and Max was a bumblebee. Max was a first a little unsure of how to trunk or treat, but free candy is a concept that doesn't take much to catch on to.
Max just had his second birthday last week-another concept that he wasn't quite sure of. His sisters have been prepping him for weeks, asking him what color cake he wanted (yellow was what he arbitrarily said yes to) and how old he was turning. Well, Max combined the two and when asked what he was turning on his birthday, in a growling voice he would say, "I'm turning yellow!" He is full of funny 2 year old thoughts. This morning I woke up to him hanging out the front door yelling, "No birds, don't hurt trees!"
Anyway, I have rambled enough. I hope we can all keep this going-I would love to know more of everyone's doings. :)
Rachel
well, this will force me to learn how to use the internet, because I am not missing out on all the stuff.
We are having a beautiful autumn, and I think we may have frost tonight. I collected pine boughs in the park and have covered my dahalias. I had a huge tree come down in the last wind storm. It was not planted properly. Dad and I were both sad cause it gave us privacy by the hot tub.
I had my hair cut today and now I look like I am wearing a helmet. Lovely. I also used one of my pumpkins and made pumpkin pies. Wish you were close I could share.
This is a great idea and I hope that everyone else soon finds our blog.
Wowie wow wow!
This is really cool! I found out last night when I was walking around near the computer, waiting for Mom and Dad to go to their room so I could sneak onto my laptop (Heh heh. Oh, wait...). My mom was on the computer, so naturally, I looked over her shoulder...and saw this! GREAT idea!
So...what's to say? Mom said pretty much everything, including things I didn't know (The suspension being one of them. Watch what you post. I see it!) Hmmmm...I'll critique how well this blog was made. So far, 11/10. I'm the computer freak of the family most of the time, and this is way over my head. But it isn't capitalizing our names. I'm important, right?
My mom doesn't know how to post pictures, but I think I do. Here goes... Drat. Img tags aren't allowed. However, italics are! Here's how, for those who don't know. Before the word you want "italiced" (That's not a word, is it?), put [i], except using these thingies: <> instead of brackets. after the word or phrase, put [/i] except once again using <>. And...voila! It looks like you can do bold by substituting the "i" with "b". I don't know what ones are allowed other than those, because it's at the bottom of your "Leave your comment" screen as an example (I don't know what "a" does.) Helpful? Tell me if it doesn't work.
Well, there's really nothing to do because the strike is on, and the order for Short Circuited isn't here yet - wait, you don't know what that is, do you? I do have something to post on! :) I am in the hobby of creating Stop motion animation movies called "Brickfilms". Here is the website where I get my resources from: http://www.brickfilms.com/. (Dang, url tags won't work either! *sigh*) If you are interested, films I recommend: The Tompa City Menace, Material Posessions, Triumph of the Empire, Grace, the list goes on. My film is going to be like a sort of Alex and Derrik film, if you've seen the second film I listed. But other than that, I'm not going to say anything. It will be my first film, so I expect it out around Christmas at the very latest. It'll be a while.
Well, until next time, see ya!
*Looks at preview* Woah, that's long!
Hi it`s me Emily!
You know it`s getting chilly here.
Now we can wear sweaters! ("My favorite thing to wear.") Say when can we carve pumpkins? As you know Max turned 2 on the 17 of October ("Trouble maker.") October also reminds me think of Marlin our fish... sorry I just HAD to cry for a moment, I just remembered something...Oh ya! I remember now Holloween is coming up! Now let`s list things about Max: Max is... Drat! I don`t Mom would want me to talk ab- Wait a second- never mind just listening to scary music it`s just grumpy Max changing disks. Max has been mean, well he is because today when we were eating pancakes Max said to Julia "Stop Julia!" also at the store Max kept hitting me. Well, that`s all I have for today!
Hey, this is great fun.
I'm glad it's Friday. Tomorrow I get to go to the dump!! Woo Hoo!
We're winding up before Winter so hopefully we'll do the final rototilling of the garden. Plus we've go a big pile of garden stuff and tree branches that needs to be burned. It's fun this time of year will eveyone burning their piles. Just like Lord of the Rings when they lit those piles on fire?? Right!!
As you all know, I'm retiring early next year, as soon as they get my replacement. Why is it that everyone want's to know what I'm going to do? Isn't that why you retire. The DO days are over. What's the past tense of "do" . . . "dude"? (Alright, but "did" isn't any fun.) Maybe I'll invent something to sell to the Chinese. How about an American fortune cookie??
Here's a little Book of Mormon trivia questions for you. All of the books of have introductions that we're written by the authors on the plates except 3. Two of them, Mormon and Moroni don't have them because they were not abridgements. The third is Mosiah. Why would it not have an introduction?
Answer to come later.
Lots of love to you all,
Pa or G-Pa
Hello everyone, here we are at 10:30 on a Friday night, sitting around the computer typing. Shouldnt we be out partying? I guess we are getting old.
We went to Toys R Us tonight to buy Benjamin some birthday gifts.
He stood in the Dinosaur asile for 45 minutes yelling at the top of his lungs with great excitement "Dinosaur!" over and over while Daddy pulled everysingle one off the shelf for him to inspect. He finally chose one and we were off to look at the horseys. Lindsay is a little chatter bug and loves to tell me "no daddy not funny, Lindsay funny" She is quite the little mother. On Tuesday we will be going to the Eye specialist to see if she will have to have surgery on her eye, it turned in all of a sudden and dad said it sounds like the same problem Jeff had. Valerie is doing well and is in her third trimester, Thomas is due in December so Merry Christmas! He is a major mover and a strong little kicker. My movie suggestion for the week is Flyboys. You wont be disappointed and yes ladies it does have a love story in it, but it also has alot of great action sequences. Rachel its okay I got a speeding ticket for going 22 over in a MINIVAN, 275.00 They took half of my points also so no more tickets for me. Last but not least I would like to let everyone know that the price of caskets are going up, so you should be dying to get into one. Love your brother and family.
Hi! It's me,Julia!
I think this idea is great because it gives you something to do when, for some crazy reason your whole school district decides to go on strike. For those
who have read this,Jeremiah is only the computer freak of our family when it comes to his computer games. Yesterday, me and Emily had our last soccer game(we're on the same team)of the season. Our team won 3-1. Emily is an awesome defender and when we played yesterday she didn't let a single goal in in the first half. Kate also plays soccer, and is good at it for her age. Like my mom said, she got a speeding ticket and has to have her license taken away which really stinks. It's cold here, and Max is starting to get a little sick, so hopefully he will get better. Halloween is coming up, and I can't wait to get candy. For Christmas, Jeremiah is trying to persuade everyone to ask for a Wii,but then we wouldn't get anything else but that for Christmas. Hopefully he will change his mind about that.
I like to see what happening to all of my relatives, so keep writing!!!
I am getting ready to leave for work this morning and wishing that we were on strike like Pennsylvania! It looks like I won't be able to go part time until after Thanksgiving. I just keep telling my kids to potty at school because it is going to be a while before the bathrooms are sanitary at our house. No matter how hard I try I just can't make the days longer!
Jason has been busy landscaping up the driveway. we had a bunch of dirt brought in so that we could ease the slope. We've completed two creek beds and have two more to go. We are also on a complete outdoor watering ban here in Georgia because of the drought. We've been asked to fast for rain because it is so bad. Jason came up with a system for reusing our laundry water and it is working well. He just can't let those pansies die!
Well, I am going to run and wake the boys up - more later
Sarah
I haven't checked in since last week and I am smiling at all of the updates and fun comments.
On Friday we picked up 27 new chicks at the post office and we've been enjoying our little peeps ever since. They are cute, little, fluffy balls that act like grown-up chickens. The are currently in brooder boxes inside the house because it is too cold to have them in the garage. We have heat lamps on the boxes to keep them warm.
Our weekend was full with the last soccer game (halelujah!), a wedding reception, young women in excellence, a stake activity, and trying to keep up with everything else. My laundry pile looked like Mt. Everest this morning! I've been washing and drying in between schooling today and I think our pile looks more like Mt. St Helens... there is hope!
Here is my stab at answering your question, Dad - Is it because Mosiah is a continuation of Words of Mormon?
I've been having a really interesting e-mail converstation with a woman who thought that Mormonism is a false religion/cult. She has been asking me questions like how often I read the Bible, how I define a cult, and how I get rid of my sin. I've just been answering with simple things like the articles of faith and trying to help her see that the Savior is the center of our faith. Who knows if she is having a change of heart, but is has been a testimony builder for me to field her questions. Amazing what strange ideas people have about Mormons!
It's fun to hear what everyone is going to be for Halloween. I don't relish Halloween because I end up eating so much of the kids candy. My sweet tooth is horrible!
The girls have a pottery class in a few minutes so I'd better go get out of my sweats and put on something presentable. The girls are learning to throw on the wheel and are loving this class.
Does anyone know who has who for Christmas?
Bo
Hi! It's me, Sarah. This is SUPER! My mom just came up to me and showed me this.We had a great soccer season this year. My dad coached for Emma and I.Even though we did not win A SINGLE GAME ,it was still fun. I have to go to pottery class now. I'll write later.
Yes - I know who has who for Christmas! I knew this blog was going to be a great idea! Now I don't have to call everyone!
Jenny has Rebecca
Rebecca has David
Sarah has Jenny
Rachel has Jeff
Jeff has Rachel
David has Sarah
Let me know if any of these don't sound right to you...we have had to tweak it a bit over the years and I try to keep mixing everyone up, but sometimes I fail!
Also, I am going to try and attach a photo of our new puppy, Lucy. She is a doll, but has no manners! We're hoping she learns some quick from Oreo or else Jason will get rid of her. She keeps digging up Jason's pansies (a fate worse than death around here!) and then she pooped right outside Jason's car door today and he stepped in it on his way out to work!! She is treading on thin ice!
Hi there,
Mom's over at the Church with the YW getting the building ready for our Halloween party tomorrow night. I just spoke to my sister Karen. They got back into their house at Lake Arrowhead on Saturday. Kenny had to show his fireman credentials to get throught the roadblocks. Everything was fine at their house but 2 families in their Ward lost their homes. Not many people have moved back in and she said there were only 12 at church on Sunday. Those fires were devastating. Her understanding is that John and Margaret went back to their house last Thursday. Everything was ok with their house, too.
Ah, the Book of Mormon trivia question. Well the answer based on some recent comments by BYU researchers are that when Martin Harris lost the 116 pages in 1828, the first part of Mosiah was lost too. This makes it all the more remarkable the tie over that Mormon made in the Words of Mormon and how tightly it fits with the text that we have. He obviously didn't know why he was writing the Words of Mormon or including the Small Plates with his record. The preservation of this text is an absolute miracle.
If you have any interesting questions or issues you want to bring up on gospel topics, have at it.
I've ordered the new movie that's a followup to Journey of Faith. It's titled Journey of Faith the New World. It was shown at Education Week in August.
I hope you all have a fun time on Halloween. Drop by anytime!! HA!
Lots of love,
El Padre de todo el mundo
