Just So You Are Not Shocked

I have a spare tire. Just wanted to let you all know so that you are not gawking at me when you arrive this week. Just pretend that I'm glamorous if you know what's good for you. Lest you all think I am a lazy, good-for-nothing slob who has let herself go - I would like you all to try working full time, going to school, being cub-master (the bane of my existence) and being a mom. Yeah - that's right - you just try and find time to exercise and look sexy.
Other that that little minor sidenote - I am looking forward to a FUN visit!

Harvest Time!

Hi Everyone! My photos are not rotated so sorry about making you crane your neck. I'll add more in a bit when I get some current ones of the barn. The tomatoes are from the garden, sunflowers too, and a shot of me showing a horse for the first time!

It is fall here in Michigan and we are in the middle of harvest and preparing for the winter. I love the colors and crisp cool air. Our garden has produced TONS this year and we just pulled out all of our pumpkins. We have a lot of decorative gourds too - they grew up the fence, on the sunflowers, in the corn... I've been canning beets, tomatoes, and am hoping to can pie pumpkins and potatoes this week. On top of that is the daunting task of pulling out all the old veggies and preparing the garden to winter over. Wish us luck in all our farming tasks!

David left for a 22 day trip to Asia a few days ago and we have been mourning his absence. He wishes he could be here because he has been building a barn for our animals and it isn't quite finished yet. I am painting the barn a gorgeous red color and it looks great against the fall colors. I end up spending more time admiring it than I do painting:)

All the animals are doing well and we must report that one of our hens is actually a rooster! We had been wondering about his masculine traits and then when he did his first feeble crow we didn't wonder any more. (do roosters go through puberty? because his crow sounded like a thirteen year old boy whose voice is changing)
